Remigo Ergo Sum, 'I row therefore I am', is a group of veteran (in their forties) rowers challenging themselves to get fit and raise money for charity.
We are inspired by Andy Ripley the extraordinary sportsman who showed that age is no barrier to fitness by producing exceptional times on indoor rowing machines into his fifties. Andy Ripley died last year after a long battle with prostate cancer and we are raising money to support the Prostate Cancer Charity.
The challenge is to row as far as possible each month and to row 5000 metres as fast as possible each month. Between January and June two ranks are produced at the end of each month based on distance rowed and time for rowing 5000 metres. The challenge winner is the one with the highest ranking at the end of June 2011. We believe a little friendly competition encourages everyone to participate.
The team target is is to complete 6,000,000 metres by the end of June.
