As a charity, Cancer Research UK rely overwhelmingly on the success of fundraising events such as Race for Life to continue our life-saving research into the prevention, treatment and cure of all forms of cancer.

'Sometimes you go through experiences in life for a reason and I believe this 'unplanned journey' for me was no different! In December 2005 I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. I underwent 2 brain operations in which the tumour was removed! I am now (slowly, but surely!) on the road to recovery! Trying to be patient whilst my body recovers at a much slower rate than my 24 year old mind!!

Before this very difficult time in my life (and those of loved ones around me) I often (like so many other people) gave the odd donation to charities here and there whenever people held out a sponsorship form my way!  But very rarely did I stop to think about the impact this terrible disease has on so many peoples lives! Therefore, the reason for my 'unplanned journey' was for me to think about all those affected by cancer and bring something positive out of something so negative. It is not until you are touched personally and in my case I felt so strongly that I had to do all that I could to raise peoples awareness into brain tumours that are often known as the 'orphan cancer' and maybe one day find a cure!'
