Crohn’s and Colitis UK is a national charity in the battle against Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. We are fighting to achieve a better quality of life for the 300,000 people in the UK suffering physically and emotionally from these and other forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Ultimately, we want to find a cure.
My journey started a year ago on the 6th of may. I was rushed into hospital with appendicitis. My appendix was removed and 2 weeks later, with a horrendous infections, blood poisoning and insane amounts of pain later I did a 2 week stint back in hospital. I was finally diagnosed with chrons disease and chronic anemia. I was fitted with a colostomy bag due to infection being started by a hole in my bowl (which I still have) and is the biggest change in my life.
I spent 6 months (the longest 6 months of my life) in and out of hospital, no energy, feeling very down and lonely, not being able to go back to work or see friends/family.
On my 21st birthday I finally got my appointment to start my treatment. And without funding or research I would never have found the best treatment that worked so well for me. Im back at work, I'm building my weight back up, I'm building my energy back up and my life is now back to 'normal' (as normal as it can be)
I have had the best support system around me, I would have never come out the other side of this feeling so positive if it wasn't for the people I surround myself with and the story's I have read from other people diagnosed and it puts so much into perspective!
I want to do all I can to give back, and support those who have been recently diagnosed or those that have been diagnosed for years. Every little helps!!!
