Abortion Support Network provides advice, support, information and funding for people forced to travel for an abortion from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Poland, the Isle of Man, Malta and Gibraltar. We give grants, when needed, towards the £400-£2000 cost of abortion travel.

Story

“We would like to thank you sincerely for your indescribably great help and kindness… the procedure and everything connected with it went smoothly and successfully. All your help and support, financial, mental, organisational and much more was incredible. I don’t want to write that our pregnancy was a matter of life and death, but actually it was. You gave us a chance for further life. I don’t know what else to say, we are still so shocked and grateful that there is still such a thing as genuine, honest kindness and selflessness “just like that” in this world, and that we have experienced it in such a colossal measure from you.”

- an abortion-seeker in Poland, supported by the Abortion Support Network (ASN)

Abortions are healthcare, they're an expression of bodily integrity and autonomy, and they're about inalienable rights.

Abortions are about life. They are life giving, life sustaining, and yes; life altering. Abortions are about what futures can be imagined, what can be realised, and what can be made possible because of the ability to make decisions over one's own body and over one's own life.

In contexts where abortion is restricted and under threat, it is feminist collectives and groups who have always organised to ensure immediate, practical access to information, to resources, to abortion. It is feminist collectives and groups who have stepped in–time and again– when we have been failed and betrayed by the State.

Abortion Support Network (ASN) is that feminist ethics of care and love. ASN provides advice, support, information, and funding for people forced to travel for an abortion from Ireland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Malta, Gibraltar, Poland, Romania, Hungary, France, Spain, the Czech Republic and the other EU countries on a case-by-case basis, in addition to supporting those impacted by the war in Ukraine.

ASN steps in where the State fails, over and over again. ASN steps in to ensure people can make informed, supported decisions over their own bodies, their lives, their futures.

I will run the 21.09 km– at the Royal Parks half marathon on the 9th of October 2022–to raise £2109 in support of ASN's essential work in providing abortion support and care.

I'll track my training (such as it is) & share more on why I think abortion funds are essential on my socials: @rishie_ on twitter & instagram. I've (sort of) started a training diary on tiktok: @coursecorrect_

Please consider donating generously:

  • £20 is the smallest grant ASN have made to enable abortion access.
  • £253 is the average grant an abortion-seeker requires to access care.
  • In 2020, as the pandemic made abortion travel and access even harder, ASN supported a Polish client's travel to England to access an abortion. Experiencing many travel-related difficulties including cancelled flights and other travel delays, their travel and procedures cost more than £2300 (ASN Annual Report, 2020).
