Story

Invest in ME (IiME) is organising and funding a UK clinical treatment trial of rituximab by the best possible team for the job, led by Dr. Jo Cambridge at University College London (UCL), with world renowned expert Professor Jonathan Edwards in the role of Advisor to the charity. The initial £350k target was raised by IiME supporters from June 2013 to August 2014. THANK YOU! This included £50k to fund a preliminary study on B cells to identify likely responders to this treatment: prerequisite to the trial and a useful study in its own right. We now need to help IiME to raise a further £100k due to the promising early results from the B cell study, so the target on this page is now £450k. We can do it!

Rituximab is an immune modulating drug, which helped 67% of ME patients who took part in research in Norway to such a remarkable extent that the Norwegian Health Directorate apologised for the way ME patients have previously been treated. Even better results have now been found in a follow-up study, with higher doses giving a more prolonged effect. The Phase III multi-centre trial has begun in Norway in 2014, thanks to a successful fundraising campaign run by patients.

This work needs to be validated in other countries and we thank you for your donations and sponsorship to help raise funds for the IiME/UCL UK trial. Donations go to a special IiME Rituximab Research Fund, separate from the general IIME Biomedical Research Fund, which is being used for other biomedical research projects. IiME is run by volunteers. There are no salaries and no funds will be used for charity admin.  All donations will be used in full to finance the Rituximab research. For text donations, text the code RTUX66 followed by the amount, to 70070.  We will keep you updated with progress and news about the fundraising and the trial.
