Hydro Active Challenge for Women · 4 September 2005 ·

Every day 250 people in the UK start losing their sight. With your help, we can be there when people need us most, support independent living, create an inclusive society and prevent avoidable sight loss. Every pound you raise will help create a future where sight loss is no longer a barrier.

Story

Although the prospect of running 5 km may fill some with dread, here in Liverpool, we're always up for a challenge! Even better if it involves raising money for such a great cause! Although based in Liverpool, our office covers the entire North West region offering a range of services for blind and partially sighted people including:

Resource Centre - providing information, advice and equipment for people to use at home, work or study including talking watches, large print playing cards and big button telephones.

Support for families - we organise day trips and events for children with sight problems, as well as their brothers, sisters and parents. These include visits to a local farm and a music day for budding musicians! Parents of children with sight problems come to our Family Centre for information and mutual support.

Education services - we support blind and partially sighted students at all levels of education, empowering them to achieve their full potential!

Employment services - we can help a blind or partially sighted employee identify equipment such as speech or Braille software to enable them to work effectively. If you're not able to join us on the day, we and the hundreds of people we support would be grateful for any donation you are able to make. £5 buys a tactile puzzle, helping the learning and development of a blind or partially sighted child. £15 buys an audio described Harry Potter video, allowing blind children to watch a film with their sighted friends. £25 allows a Talking Book member to enjoy the latest novels for a year. £30 allows us to provide information and support to someone newly diagnosed with a sight problem.
