Our Dad died peacefully at Dove House Hospice in Hull on Sunday 13th September. Having cancer during the pandemic wasn't easy for any of us, but the care Dad received at Dove House is something positive that will live long in our memories. Dad had only a few hours notice he was going to be admitted to Dove House and this was shortly after he visited Mum in her care home for what proved to be the last time. He had had a really difficult week and was agreeable to going, though admittedly we didn't quite dare use the word hospice, calling it a cancer care centre or something. As we drove in, he remarked "you better had not be putting me in a nursing home" and Richard assured him it certainly wasn't one of the those. It proved to be a good choice as even within hours of arrival we experienced the most remarkable improvement in his health and wellbeing known as the "hospice effect" including the return of a rather too good appetite. It was the proverbial rollercoaster thereafter but at all times we felt safe, reassured and well cared for. We would like to thank everyone at Dove House for all they did for Dad and through our fundraising, help other patients and families be supported and calmly navigated even through the choppiest of waters.
