Story

 Hi Everybody,

Thank you for visiting my 'Ben Nevis Challenge' fund raising page in aid of the Wakefield Hospice.

Although I completed my Challenge in October last year I am still raising money for the Hospice, so if you can help please donate generously.  They need all the help we can give them.

On Saturday 6th October an early morning call @ 04.45hrs, at 07.30hrs started  climbing the tallest Mountain in Britain; Ben Nevis, which is 4,408ft (1.344m) high.  No mean feat for a person of my age, 1 month off 75.  It was a long hard slog in wet & cloudy miserable conditions but worth it knowing that the money raised will help Wakefield Hospice provide much needed care and support for their terminally ill patients and families.

Dry & clear to start with but the Mist soon came in & blanked everything out leaving just the path visible.  The higher we climbed the more the weather deteriorated until we arrived at the Summit at 12.40hrs.  Rain & very adverse conditions only 2 to 3 yds visibility, temp 15 degrees.  However, on leaving the Summit to descend, the wind chill factor was -5 degrees with a SW wind & lashing rain making the descent treacherous.  All 160 of us arrived at the bottom safe & sound, rather tired and wet but with no serious injuries, to be met by Liz & her support team from Kidney Research UK with a tot of whisky waiting for us all, what a great welcome that was, it went down a treat.  Thank you Liz you did a great job.

Wayne & his team from UK Outdoor Pursuits also have to be commended for  organising  the weekend and for the help & support we had whilst on the Ben and for looking after us all.

It was a fantastic weekend and one that I hope to repeat in the future.

If all the people who promised pledges paid up, my Target of £7.000 would be reached.  Currently I have raised over £6,800 and this would not have been possible without the help of all your very generous donations to date, both off line and on line. for which I thank you all very much indeed. I have decided to keep this web site open for the forseeable future so that donations can still be received. The more I raise then the more Wakefield Hospice will benefit.

My top sponsors are:  the Suez Veterans Association'MBS  Active', thank you Mark for all your support and  help with my strict training workout on the Stair Machine,  Admiral Security Services, thank you Steve & Tom and  5 Towns Recruitment., thank you Tommy.
