I have completed the classic challenge, Raid Alpine - over the Alps from Lac Leman to the Mediterranean, 750km or 470 miles. This route takes in some of the big passes, featured in the Tour de France, including: Cormet de Roselund, 1968m Ramaz, 1557m Saisies, 1633m Iseran, 2764m Mont Cenis, 2081m Izoard, 2360m Bonette, 2715m Couillole, 1678m Bleine, 1439m ... and a host of lesser cols, not even as high as Ben Nevis. A few quick statistics: I covered 1002km altogether, including travelling from Geneva airport, and touring around, acclimatising. Most of the seven days I was cycling from about 8am to 5 or 6pm. The weather was kind, rarely too hot, and only half a day of rain. The roads were mostly quiet, and towns uncrowded, even though it should be peak holiday season. Originally I planned to ride by myself, but decided to use Graham Baxter Sporting Tours, who forward baggage and book hotels. I had one puncture, and one screw needed tightening, no other problems. I am preparing a full report, and have many photographs - I will send my report to my sponsors who give me their e-mail address.
