Rose Finn-Kelcey (1945 Northampton –2014 London) was a key figure in installation, performance and feminist art. She died in 2014 after an eight month battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

One of Rose’s most celebrated images, The Restless Image: a discrepancy between the felt position and the seen position, is a carefully staged photograph in which the artist is captured performing a handstand – releasing a seemingly exuberant, impulsive gesture, celebrating life. But the work’s subtitle suggests a gap between the experience of the subject and what is observable by the spectator.

This art work is part of the Tate galleries' collection and often on view there, although from July 14 to October 14,  2017 it will be on show at Modern Art Oxford as part of Rose's first post-humorous exhibition. for further information about The Restless Image see: http://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/finn-kelcey-the-restless-image-a-discrepancy-between-the-felt-position-and-the-seen-p78607

This year The Restless Image has been chosen to help celebrate International Handstand Day 2017. A day when people across the world are invited to rise to the challenge and celebrate the world from a different angle.

As part of the celebrations we invite you to herald her iconic Restless Image and post a picture of yourself responding to Roses' photograph to #rosefinnkelcey, and  welcome donations to Motor Neurone Disease Association. Thank you
