We provide educational development to support primary schools in rural Uganda

Story

Hello everyone / Salaam Alaikum  (peace be upon you all)

Primary education is an integral part of each and every individual childhood, forming the foundation for the development of key life skills.  However, in Uganda, UNICEF has estimated that 32% of children drop out before completing the prescribed 7 years of primary education, with only 1 in 4 children going on to secondary school.

The Uganda School Project is a grass roots organisation founded in 2016 that works to improve primary education in rural Uganda.  Their work focuses on both educational infrastructure, in securing and constructing the physical facilities necessary for a safe, supportive and effective learning environment (such as classrooms and clean drinking water supply), and educational development, involving phonics and literacy classes as well as regular teacher training.  Find out more about their wonderful work here: https://www.theugandaschoolproject.com/

This year, we (Sally and Ruba) have decided to join running efforts as sisters and run the 2023 Royal Parks Half Marathon on 8 October 2023, to raise money for this brilliant cause.  We are doing this in memory of our beloved Aqeel, Ruba's husband and Sally's brother in law who passed away suddenly in late 2020 aged just 33.  A half Ugandan himself and stalwart supporter of education for all, raising money for The Uganda School Project is the most fitting cause to pursue in his honour.  All while trudging through each one of those 13.1 miles - one of us slower than the other (we'll let you decide which is which)!

We really appreciate any support you can give in Aqeel's memory for this wonderful cause.  Thank you all!
