Weston AC- Christmas Cracker · 6 December 2015

Weston Hospicecare provides expert end-of-life care, free of charge, to people with life-limiting illnesses. Our goal is people can live as well as they can, for as long as they can; we help them feel like family and friends again, not just patients and carers.

Story

This year 64 Rudolph’s will be ready at the start line for Weston AC’s 10k Christmas cracker. A group of diverse individuals with little or no experience in running have all come together to form the Rudolph’s in training running group! We are supported by fantastic running coaches from Weston’s Athletic Club. All trainers have given up their time for free to help train us all for the past nine weeks and our training continues right up to race day.

The Rudolph’s continue to show their dedication training hard throughout the week and also giving up their Saturday morning lie in to be pelted by rain and blown across the beach, this now feels like the norm at 8am on a Saturday morning!

Although it is tough at times, really we love it and we could not do it without the continued support from Weston AC and our coaches; Vanessa Andrews, Ray Broadhurst, Nick Cook, Jo Coveney, John Grimsey, Niki Fulstow, Malcom Gammon, Annette Giles, Kim Huxtable, Colin Lintern, Rob Skeen, Paul Snelling, Cheryl Valentine, Pam Withers, Jim Wotton, Jason Wyatt.

Of course we train to cross the finish line and more importantly to hopefully raise money for Weston Hospicecare, a cause close to a lot of Rudolph’s hearts. Weston Hospicecare provides physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual care to the 1 in 100 local people with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, motor neurone disease and heart or lung failure. This incredible support and all resources are provided free of charge.

It costs nearly £3 million every year to keep the Hospice doors open, of which only 19% is funded by the NHS. All other funds come from the generosity of the local community, fundraising events, partnerships with local companies, hospice lottery and via the network of Hospice shops.

Please help us raise our target and keep this fantastic resource open.
