Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Trustees for Roman Catholic Purposes will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Sam and Mr McKell ran the London Marathon in aid of Chirwirangwe and completed it courageously, despite the scorching heat. This page will continue to be used for fundraising and awareness. Chiwirangwe' means 'We will struggle together' in Shona and is the name giving to the twinning of Stonyhurst College, a Jesuit college in Lancashire, and St. Peter's Kubatana, a Jesuit college in Harare, Zimbabwe.

St. Peter's Kubatana  is in the poor township of Highfield in Harare. The students suffer the effects of HIV/AIDS (of which 3000 people die every week in Zimbabwe) , the problems of the worst hyper-inflation in the world (in a country that was previously the 'bread-basket of Africa' ) at more than 1,700%,( the second worst being at 70%, Iraq) and the acute lack of political stability resulting in the complete collapse the judiciary, the health service, the education system, all in all of democracy, as shown in the media recently.

The Aim of 'Chirwirangwe' is to establish a meaningful and productive relationship between Stonyhurst and St. Peters, to develop an understanding of one another's cultures, and to provide mutual support.

On their recent visit to St. Peter's Kubatana, three members of the Chirwirangwe Group at Stonyhurst; Mr. Warillow, Bea Gee and Tim Lewis, were struck by the positive and enthusiastic ambitions/aspirations of the pupils at St. Peter's. We believe that young people all over the world, regardless of their situation, have the right to an education and a future.

Visitors to St. Peter's are amazed at the optimism and enthusiasm of the pupils, most want to be journalists or lawyers, but when they leave they will lhave the face the real threat of unemployment, now at 80%.  Facilities at St. Peter's are either non-existent or very limited. The library is very small and the books are out of date, the  textbooks are in very limited and there is no science laboratory.

Donations will thus be going towards a library, in which the school will be able to store the textbooks, the textbooks themselves, and the science lab; all considered to the the basics of an education in, for example, England. We encourage you to sponsor Sam and Mr McKell because donatiosns will go towards a facility that will provide ambitious young men and women, the future of Zimbabwe, the possibilty to realise the considerable economic potential of Zimbabwe and establish and support a democracy. Thankyou very much for your time.
