We raise life-changing funds to enhance care at UHS

Story

Last November our dad Bryan Smith suffered a sudden major heart attack in the night. Thanks to a combination of luck, mum's quick reactions, the speed of the emergency services and the work of the paramedics, dad made it to the hospital in time for the cardiac team at Southampton General Hospital to perform life saving heart surgery.

After having an initial two stents inserted he then had a whopping quintuple bypass operation, which we are delighted to say, was a huge success. He is now active again, doing his rehab and most importantly playing with his five young grandchildren. Mum tells us he has also stopped snoring which if you've ever heard dad snore is life changing in itself for her.

We are so lucky to have dad with us and so are taking on the Southampton Half on April 23rd not only to see who's the quickest brother but to raise vital funds and awareness for Southampton General Hospital and specifically the Cardiac High Dependency Unit (CHDU) whose care for dad during his time there was truly unbelievable.

Thank you to every one of you who helped us through the horrible time that dad was ill, we are so very grateful. If you can spare a few quid towards our fundraising it will help continue to provide the world-class treatment and equipment that dad and numerous heart and lung patients receive every day in the CHDU at Southampton General Hospital.
