Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and thank you so so much to those who have donated :-)
I have entered the London Virgin Marathon to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation, my place in the marathon was secured via one of their charity places. The British Heart Foundation is a cause that means a lot to me and my family, we have a lot to thank them for. I’m sure this is true for many other people out there as well. Coronary heart disease is the single biggest killer in the UK, the British Heart Foundation has been raising vital funds for groundbreaking treatments, pioneering research and the prevention of heart disease for 50 years.
A few years ago my dad was diagnosed with heart disease, longstanding atrial fibrillation (AF) and a number of related issues. This came as a shock, my dad was active he cycled to work every day, walked for miles with his beloved dogs and rarely could be found sitting down! He started finding physical exertion more tiring than usual, he had just celebrated his 60th birthday so put this down to the effects of aging.
He worried he would not be able to enjoy his favourite hobbies anymore… however after extensive treatment, treatment brought about by the excellent work that the BHF do, he has been out of AF for a full 12 months and is feeling better than ever. The British Heart Foundation want to mend broken hearts, and so do I. Taking on this challenge is my way of saying a big THANK YOU to the BHF and giving something back to this fantastic charity.
