Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon 2019 · 5 May 2019 ·
A few months ago I would have never imagined running part of
the Belfast Marathon, nor would I have imagined what would happen to our friend and colleague Cathy Torley.
As you know she lost her short battle with cancer on Monday 25th February 2019, just 11 short weeks from celebrating at our Head Office Christmas Party.
Walking through the doors of the Cancer Centre at any hospital would be daunting, but at Belfast City hospital, where Cathy received her treatment and spent her last few weeks, “Friends of the Cancer Centre” are there to make sure both patient and family get the best care possible.
Friends of the Cancer Centre have a long and proud history of helping local cancer patients, across Northern Ireland for over 30 years. Their work focuses on three key areas - patient care, patient comfort and research - and it supports the services provided by the Health Service.
In the last year the charity has invested £1.2 million into local cancer
services through the life-saving and life-changing work that they support. Cathy’s family have chosen this charity for donations in Cathy’s memory and it’s for this charity that myself and Scott McLachlan will be running the Relay along with members of my family – Wes, Jemma and Judith.
It’s an extremely worthwhile cause and one that was very close to both Cathy’s heart and that of her family. Every penny counts, so no matter the amount please can you sponsor what you can.
Thank you so much
