BUPA Great North Run 2005 · 18 September 2005 ·

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.

Story

The Great North Run has now taken place and all runners got round in great time and seemed fit and well at the end suffering only with slightly aching muscles and a touch of sunburn! A special pat on the back goes to Fred Reynolds who ran in a large, heavy "Marvin" suit which can only be likened to an oversized tomato. Given that the suit had the aerodynamics of a giant lampshade, Fred did amazingly well to complete the course and in good time too.

Donations continue to pour in and some additional cheques can be added to the grand total raised which is now approximately £28,000. Please keep logging in to the website which will remain open for a month or so. A picture of the team at the end of the run, taken in the Meningitis Research Foundation tent, has now replaced Ellie's photo - what a sweaty bunch!

A huge thank you goes to all the runners, supporters and donors for all their hard work, hard earned cash, and enthusiasm. Ellie would have been so proud of you all.

Lots of love and thanks to you all,

Hugo and Lucy Vaux
