Story

For the last 6 years at least I have watched the London Marathon on TV on a Sunday morning in April, usually with a hangover and almost always with a coffee and a bacon butty. Every year I have watched and admired every person for their effort but most of all I have thought to myself "these crazy bastards have run 26 odd miles and I haven't even managed to get out of my PJs yet".

That is what Sunday mornings are for right....?

In May 2018 I did a skydive in memory of my Nana Vi. My cousin and I raised over £4000 for Willen Hospice. This is just 7.4 hours of hospice care/time. They need £9 every minute to open their doors.

Cancer is a c**t isn't it. My Nana, and both my Grandads died from Cancer. Family members, friends, friends of friends in fact EVERY person I know has be impacted by cancer in some way shape or form. The thing about Willen Hospice (all hospices I suspect) is that at a time when you and your loved ones are really struggling they kinda sweep in and just make a really hard time just that little bit more reasonable. I spent hours in the hospice just sitting doing a jigsaw puzzle because I wasn't quite sure what to do with myself - and they just kept offering me cups of tea! :-)  That is on top of the care they give to adults nearing the end of their life. They deal with the pain and symptoms with compassion, patience and love. Simply amazing!

My Nana was in Willen Hospice for almost 4 months. We tried to work out what she must have cost the hospice during that time and we think the calculation looks a bit like this:

4 months = 120 days (ish) x 24 hours care = 172,800 minutes

15 beds

172,800 minutes x £9 a minute = £1,555,200 divided by 15 = £103,680

So when the hospice offered me a Gold Bond place to run the London Marathon in 2019 obviously I jumped at the chance. Well I jumped and said yes and then thought "WHAT ARE YOU THINKING".

I can barely run 5km as I sit and type this today (July 2nd 2018). But I am gonna suck it up and learn how to run a marathon before April because saying thank you will never be enough and I feel compelled to contribute in anyway I can to the care this charity offers. Milestone number 1 is to raise £2500 for this incredible place. Please will you help me?

On April 28th 2019 I am going to be one of those crazy bastards running 26.2 miles all before you (maybe) have changed out of your PJs. LOL!

Please sponsor me to run the Marathon in memory of my grandparents and as a thank you to Willen for being Awesome. When I hit "the wall" that I have been hearing about, the support from you guys is what will kick my butt over the finish line!

How many minutes of care can you cover?

10 seconds - £1.50

1 minute - £9

2 minutes - £18

5 minutes - £45

10 minutes - £90

60 minutes - £540

Love you guys, every single one of you! and THANK YOU. This challenge is gonna be like nothing I have ever done before. I appreciate every single one of you and every single penny you sponsor me!

Wish me luck! :-)
