Ironman - Lanzarote 2010 · 22 May 2010
We did it, all 10 of us managed to complete Ironman Lanzarote 2010. Seven first timers and 3 old pro's got there well before the deadline of midnight. More impotantly we also got there with the sponsorship target too - well done to all that sponsored us - still time for any late donations though!
We are 3 of 10 members from Ryton Tri who are competing in Ironman Lanzarote this year. This consists of a mere 3.8km sea swim, followed by a 180km bike ride around a windswept volcanic island, then a pleasant 42km marathon run along a blistering hot seafront (yes.. in one day). Between us we have no idea why we are doing this event but all agree that the training is killing us. There are a mere 2 days until this event and we are still making comments such as 'when do we need to taper cos I haven't done a brick session yet', 'bricks are for building houses', 'races are for people with nowt better to do 'and 'I never EVER want to race again'. As you can tell from these comments this event is going to hurt us 'A LOT!' so we thought it was essential to do this event for charity. Choosing a charity was difficult as there are so many good causes out there but we decided to raise money for a local cancer support charity. One of our friends at Ryton Tri, Mike Paul, is now in a fairly stable state of post-cancer treatment. He suffered from Sarcoma of the sphenoid bone, which is just behind the eyes and very difficult to treat. Mike was very impressed by the help and support he received from Northumberland Cancer Support Group and I know he will be delighted that we are assisting him to raise essential funds for this worthy charity.
If you like us, click the donate button above and sponsor us a few quid, it won't hurt you!
If you don't really like us, sponsor us and think about how much pain we're going to endure for that couple of quid of yours.
If you don't even know us, sponsor us anyway, the money is for charity, not us
Thanks Denise, Jaci & Laura
