Epilepsy Action is creating a world without limits for everyone affected by epilepsy, connecting people with others, and providing support and information you can trust. We’re calling out the misunderstanding, prejudice and barriers that stop people with epilepsy living their best life.

Story

I woke up one morning and for some bizzare reason I thought I could run 10K... and here is why I am doing it - time to start training me thinks!

When I was twelve I went on a family holiday to Mauritius, not your average family holiday but then we are not your average family...

My dad worked for British Airways so we were incredibly lucky (not that we knew it when we were kids) and we got taken to fantastic destinations. The travel doctor gave me anti-malarial tablets, I collapsed on holiday, no one saw me collapse so many put it down to the long flight and lack of food. 12 months later I had a seizure and I was diagnosed as having Epilepsy possibly brought out by the anti-malarial tablets.

I have Grand Mal Epilipsy and on and off over the years I have had seizures usually one every 2 - 3 years but it does not stop me from enjoying my life., I love my job and I love to travel whenever I can and I am blessed to have a job that allows me to follow my passion for safety and travel!

I have been lucky l have always had a great support network of family and friends which has always given me confidence in my life, confidence to ignor those that do discriminate against people like me.

Then there are people with Epilepsy who have no one to turn to, their cultural and traditional beliefs cause them fear within their own families, companies that do not have the right information and discriminate against employees even GP's are not great at giving the right advice!

Did you know 75 people a day are diagnosed with having epilipsy and that you can get it at any age...

Epilepsy Action provides much needed advice, training and information to individuals with or without epilesy as well as to schools and businesses but they rely on the generosity of the public and businesses for around 90 per cent of its income.
