Story
One afternoon on a rainy March day, I saw a message from my friend, Fuf Virani simply stating "hey let's do it"!
I wasn't quite sure what she meant. However, as I scrolled through my messages I realised that ladies were being sought to form a small group to complete the infamous National Three Peaks Challenge.
The National Three Peaks Challenge involves attempting to climb the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours. What an awesome challenge!
I got to work straight away. My first thoughts were who would look after the children....I spoke with the 'Boss' and Mum and the go ahead was given.
This was surprisingly easier than envisaged, so now God Willing I'm starting my preparation for the 8th July 2017.
I've never done anything like this before..... some may say it's a midlife crisis but I thought I'd attempt it before the big 40!
Picking a charity was the easy part as "The Desk and Chair Foundation" is a charity that my family and I regularly support.
My target is to raise £1538 which will build a fresh water well in East Africa.
We in the west often take fresh water for granted, but for many women around the world it can be a long and difficult journey to collect water.
In third world countries piped safe water supply is only available in town and city centres.
In the suburbs and villages where typically 70% of the population live, they have no access to clean and safe water. They are required to collect water from traditional water sources like puddles and local dams where the water is then shared with animals.
As a result, children and the elderly often become unwell from drinking this water and on many occasions this can sadly result in a loss of someone's life.
The lack of clean and fresh water can result in poor sanitation. The consequence of this is that the chances of the outbreak of various diseases and other related ailments are extremely high.
By providing accessible wells the chances of getting sick are dramatically reduced to less than 10%.
A fresh clean water well can serve 300 people.
I therefore kindly request you to please support me in building a well and getting clean water to those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Your generosity will help save lives and provide clean water for generations to come.
