Story

Dudley Moore also suffered with PSP. He very bravely went public about his illness & allowed his struggle to be filmed. You can watch his battle by googling You Tube then in search type in Dudley Moore's battle with PSP. It is extremely moving. This rare illness completely devastated my Dad's & my family's life. To better understand this hideous disease this clip must be seen. Thank you.

What a great race yesterday for the Bob Keeler Round the World Memorial Race. We had very light winds to begin with with 0 knots reading on the instruments. Thankfully the wind picked up nicely later in the day. RushKnot came in 2nd & Diablo 5th so fantastic results for both boats. A staggering 20 boats joined in the fun & with the entrance fee we managed to make £300 for the charity. Thank you so much for everyone who sailed with us.

The Bob Keeler memorial race is this Friday. We now have 2 boats racing to raise awareness & money for the PSP Association, Diablo & RushKnot. Good luck to you both :))

So Team Diablo are now heading home to Dubai. They came 7th in the Muscat to Khasab race & were extremely pleased with how well they did considering the weather conditions they had to endure. It literally was from one extreme to the other! We have managed to raise a staggering £3,915 for the PSPA on the just giving website. This doesn't include all the cash we have. Well done to all crew members Clare, Doug, Lee, Harris, Tamsin, Suzie, Tania, Maddy, Will and by no means least Paul. You've all had an amazing experience you will never forget. To say I'm grateful to you all would be an understatement, for helping me raise not only money but awareness of this cruel & devastating illness my brave Dad had to suffer for 10 years.

Update received from Team Diablo at 10.50 this morning Morning! Well it's been over 24 hours of no wind now, its been a long hard day and night. Changing sails back and fore packing and repacking. We have probably only had 0-3 knots of wind, with the instruments reading ZERO a lot of the time. We are just heading up past Fujairah port anchorage, with plenty of big ships about. We floated down past another boat in the race Sharazad and said hi in the early hours of this morning. Not sure where we are in the race now, hoping the breeze picks up so we can get to Khasab before the race finishes on Wednesday at 10 am. We broke out a beer last night and had a happy hour, before we started shifts for sleeping. We had a pod of dolphins playing around the boat this morning for about an hour. Have attached a good picture of them. Just finished the Quaker Oats for breakfast, and Lee is doing the washing up while everyone else is on deck getting us up to 3.4 speed over ground. Had to call a tanker up on the vhf to change course,as he was going to pass 50 feet in front of us. There is a great picture of Lee and the tanker. Paul

And so the second leg of the Muscat Regatta has started. The race to Khasab. Sounds like it is going to be an exciting race. Good winds predicted. An electrical storm predicted when they reach Mussandam tomorrow night. Good luck Team Diablo. With all your experience you will "weather the storm"

Well I am sure you know by now that we have retired from the race. We had an amazing race up to that point, we were flying down to Muscat from Mussadam, having been racing on the side of a storm, we had great winds and were heading down at 7-8 knots in the dark. Lee and Doug on the helm doing a great job, it seems like twice the speed in the dark. The storm then turned into a hugh electrial storm, with lightning touching down all over the place. We needed to tack to make the virtual mark right through the storm as opposed to where we were running along the side. We all agreed and broke out the life rafts and grab bags just in case we got hit by lightning. The next thing we knew we got hit by a squall. It came out of nowhere. Lee was on helm with 50+ knots which puts us at a force 9-10 storm. We couldn't see a thing as the rain was coming in sidewards with the sea coming over the gunwhale. Doug, Will and I headed to bow and dropped the Genoa and the main sail and lashed them down to the deck ready if needed to put up the storm sails. Doug and Clare made the call to head into port as we were unsure of the damage to the boat. We got back into a small fishing harbour in Dibba, and sorted the boat out and Tamsin's husband Phil bought a new starter motor over from Dubai, and even fitted it for us.... cheers Phil Having retired from the race we are nowheadng to Muscat for the Dubai to Khasab race. Paul

Team Diablo were hit by a severe storm at 2am this morning. Seeing up to 50+ knots of wind in 0 to 2 seconds. All crew are safe. They managed to get the sails down. But were concerned about being hit by lightening. So for the sake of keeping everyone safe, pulled into Dibba harbour. The motor starter isn't working, possibly because it was hit by lightening, so we are on our way to give them a new one & also some dry clothes as everything is soaking wet. They can re-start the race as soon as they get the new starter motor. By of course have lost their first position. But the main thing is everyone is safe thank goodness. I will update more when we get there.

Good luck today Team Diablo. Racing for PSP

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The PSP Association is close to my heart as my darling Dad passed away from this cruel and devastating disease in May 2010. They are the only charity in England. Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a degenerative brain disease, which affects eye movement, balance, mobility, speech and swallowing. It is rare, and as it states, progressive, which means the symptoms become more severe over time.  Life expectancy is approximately 7 years.

Over time PSP can rob a person of the ability to walk, talk, smile or laugh, feed themselves or communicate effectively with the world around them, yet they usually remain mentally alert.  The eyes can become fixed therefore not allowing the person to look up or down, only straight ahead.  People are often misdiagnosed with either Parkinsons or Alzheimers.

There is currently no effective treatment or cure for PSP.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
