In a moment of sheer brilliance (or madness, you decide!), the Music Department at Wycombe High School (WHS) decided to present the staff with a challenge; to learn a new musical instrument and pass a Grade One exam in six months and be sponsored by friends and family to help raise £1.5 million for a a new Music Centre for the school and community.
I played the piano for a number of years when I was a teenager but gave it up as I grew older; something I have always regretted. I therefore jumped at the opportunity to learn a new musical instrument. I narrowed my options down to the flute, guitar or harp and chose the flute, mainly because I love the sound, we had one at home and a new car was out of the question! Little did I know how hard it would be to make a sound out of a flute. Nor that my teacher would be the Head Girl - no pressure!
There are many events nowadays for which people ask for sponsorship so I am aiming to ask lots of people for a little, in the belief that little things can make a big difference. So, with this mind I am asking 150 family, friends, neighbours and colleagues to each sponsor me a £1, on this page, or in person. Might you be one of my 150?
