Sam Skydives for St Peter & St James Hospice on the 17th of April 2021

In memory of Peter Abbott
We provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time, to everyone who needs us; all of our hospice services are free of charge. It costs £6m per year to provide our services but we receive just 13% of this from the Government. We rely on support from our amazing community fundraisers.

Story

As some of you may know, I very recently lost my Grandad to cancer. He fought very hard for the last year, but sadly gave up his fight at 6.25pm on the 2nd of September at the grand old age of 81. His last few precious days were spent at St Peter & St James Hospice in North Chailey and I can honestly say that the environment, surroundings, care and staff are impeccable.

Whilst I spent time there, I learnt that the hospice is run purely on charitable donations and they need £8,000 a day just to be able to stay open and keep doing the wonderful work they are doing, but given the hardship COVID-19 has caused, donations are significantly down as a lot of fundraising events have been cancelled, meaning that they are facing the possibilities of closing which would be absolutely dire.

I am therefore raising money to help keep them afloat by skydiving in April 2021. I am jumping out of a plane at 12,000 feet, with a freefall of 30-40 seconds. For those of you who don't already know, I have a pretty big fear of heights, so this is obviously not the most sensible of things to choose to do to raise money, but a cause well worth conquering my fear for and this seemed pretty apt given that Grandad used to serve in the Royal Airforce. Therefore any donations you're able to give would be incredible, and please don't forget to tick the Gift Aid box when prompted.

I will be doing this at the closest centre to Sussex which is at Headcorn Aerodrome right in the heart of Kent (TN27 9HX) on Saturday the 17th of April 2021 at 11.30am, any support on the day is more than welcome if you fancy a mini road trip, and potentially a bit of a giggle watching me panic freefall out of a plane!
