The Brain Tumour Charity is the world’s leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, we’re moving further and faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour. A cure really can’t wait

Story

On 29th Jan 2014 I woke up with my normal life- 40 years old,mum of two & police officer of 19 years.

At 4pm later the same day I woke up on the floor of my house with my family and the paramedics around me. My 6 year old son had found me unconscious and called 999, scared.

2 hours later they told me I had a Brain Tumour. It was devastating.

Since then I have had an operation, radiotherapy and am currently on my 2nd type of chemotherapy.

The last year has been hard.

Brain Cancer is incurable. It is currently the biggest cancer killer for children and adults under 40.

Despite that less than 1% of the government and Cancer UK research money is spent on this type. Therefore the survival rate is the same as it was in the 1970s- only 10% surviving to 5 years. The Brain Tumour Charity are the leaders in driving forward research and moving towards a cure. They are confident we are 5-10 years away from it.

Of everything, I am absolutely determined for something good to come out of my bad situation.

So I am walking a crummy 10 miles with about 10 others- whose pages who are also on Just Giving- to raise as much as we can.

Update -

It is 31st March today- 2 days after the walk.

So, if anyone is on the page for an update, please be reassured that the 10 mile sponsorship was well and truly earned.

The weather was horrible- it was hammering down with rain, cold and upto 50 mph winds. Somebody somewhere was making sure the event was a real challenge.

I had picked up a virus the day before which meant that I nearly did have to drag myself the last mile and spent the next day in A & E.

But let's not dwell on that.

There were 9 others who were part of the team- plus my mum,dad & sister. Everyone has worked relentlessly raising money.

As of today, & still rising, the total to give to The Brain Tumour Charity is-

***********£ 43,622 """"""""""""""""""""""""

I am very proud, moved and thankful to EVERYONE

The page is still open to anyone who forgot to do it before the event

25/4/15- now well over £45,000. (This equates to well over £50,00 in real terms -as the charity also get the 25% gift aid that shows alongside your donation if you are a tax payer.)

24/5/15 - Basic now up to £47,338 plus gift aid donations means that the charity has received the final total of-

********** £61,6225*************************

Thank you to my walkers John Bacon (JB),Zoe Davis, Kate & Charlie Snell, Rebecca McQuillan,Adam El-Abd,Sarah Roberts,Jonny Hull, Zhara & Willy Priddle ( Plus Mum, Bec & Mick)
