Aspire Channel Swim 2022 · 5 December 2022 to 31 March 2023 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

For the next 12 weeks I will be attempting to swim 21 miles (the length of the Channel) to raise money for those with Spinal Cord Injuries. This is about 115 lengths a week, and I’m not exaggerating when I say I have not swam lengths in 10 years. 🫣

This is close to my heart for a number of reasons. My amazing Mum has been helping and working with patients with Spinal Injuries in Southport’s NHS Spinal Unit for 15 years, where I’ve also worked myself 🤍

In addition, one of my colleagues- Lauren, suffered a spinal cord injury as a result of a fall in 2019. This fall left Lauren, who was usually very active and loved travelling the world; unable to walk, work or do many of the things that were once second nature to her.

Having seen first hand the huge physical and mental impact these injuries can have; I have decided that I’d like to do something to help if I can. Any amount you can spare or even just a share would be greatly appreciated. 🤍
