Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Soraya - Running a marathon was always an ambition of mine, mostly conceived whilst enjoying a steaming hot cup of coffee, in the warm with a bacon sandwich watching that famous day in London each April! Last year I decided to actually do it, those lazy mornings replaced with the long cold months of winter training, I was only going to do this once after all! I completed London in 4 hrs 13 minutes and somehow find myself 2 weeks away from doing it all again in Brighton. The training has presented a few extra challenges this year as I continue to recover from my own health battles, looking forward to the finish line and a celebration with my very challenging running partners already!  Thankyou for supporting us - Soraya xx

Chris - Soraya has again helped me to train for another Marathon, this time in Brighton on 18th April. I will be trying to keep up with her and I'm sure that  she will beat  my time again. However, my aim is to get around in 4hrs 30 or less. Thanks for your support - Chris

And in 3rd place, Amin - Running a marathon has always sounded like a nice thing to have completed, but it never appealed to me for a few reasons - 1) The race is on a Sunday morning, 2) You have to train in the winter when it's cold, dark, and wet  (or this year, in the snow and ice), 3) training takes hours and hours, and 4) it's a bloody long way and your body takes a beating.

However, I was inspired last year watching all the people running, and seeing and hearing all the messages about why they were running.  It is very hard not to weep when you hear all the personal sadnesses and crusades that people are running for.  When you see people in their 80's running, being 40 is no excuse not to run.  We should all have a go and try and do some good.

We are not running for pleasure - most of us can bang out 10km's, and struggle to get to 20km's, but then it becomes very painful, and the thought of doing the same distance again is not nice!!

We can't think of a single person who has not been personally affected by a cancer story.  As we go about our daily lifes, we forget how lucky we are and we have no idea how brave and strong and determined sufferers are.  So get your hands in your pockets, and donate the equivalent of a night out...

Whilst Soraya and Chris have been amazing in their training, and have reached an amazing level of fitness, take pleasure in the fact that my longest run to date is 26km, and that hurt a lot.  I expect that I will have to struggle for 2 hours after Chris is sipping his first beer, and Soraya is adorned in beautiful dress and some ridiculously uncomfortable heels, sipping  a glass of Chablis.  Most of you surely are happy to pay to know that will be painful!!!!!

Amin X
