Kielder Half Marathon · 13 October 2019
After the recent diagnosis of a close family member, I've decided to take on the challenge of a half marathon and do my bit to try and #beatcancer.
For those of you that know me well, you would be entitled to say 'I never thought you'd become a runner'. Well, I'm still not one! But I am willing to run/puff as much as I can around the (rather hilly!) Kielder Half Marathon course in aid of Bloodwise. I did my first 10k race this summer and, er... here we are with less than a month till the Half.
Since that 10k, my dad has been diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. We are just the start of a long process of tests, all manner of scans, chemo and the care of a wonderful team of NHS staff.
As a woman of action I called Bloodwise straight away to see if we could fundraise. I'm not promising any incredible finish times here guys, but will be so chuffed hopefully to finish without injury.
As ever I have my incredible husband by my side (although on the day he will be very much in front) as we attempt this feat together and begin the journey of supporting a loved one living with cancer.
About Bloodwise
Blood cancer is the third most common form of cancer in the UK, affecting around 250,000 people. Each day, 100 people are diagnosed with blood cancer or a related disorder.
Bloodwise are doing amazing work, supporting people with a blood cancer diagnosis, and funding vital research to transform the lives of those living with one of the 137 types of blood cancer.
The goal
Every pound you give is helping beat blood cancer, and making the life-saving work of Bloodwise possible.
Our £600 target could help facilitate a ground-breaking three day clinical trial, or allow researchers to analyse the DNA of 20 blood cancer patients.
We'll be posting updates here and on Facebook and Instagram.
We're so grateful for all your generosity. See you at the finish line!
