Story
Alopecia UK is a small registered charity working hard to improve the lives of those affected by alopecia. The charity has aims of Support, Awareness and Research.
How Alopecia affects me (negatively)
- avoidance of certain activities (the gym, dance class, anything windy)
-worrying if you can tell it’s a wig or can see wig lines, wig clips
-a new level of cold!!
-getting ready can be stressful or time consuming
- loss of identity and being sad thinking about “the old me”
-loss of confidence in things I wouldn’t have even thought about (chapping on a door, opening the door, putting the bin out, going on a night out)
-doctors not knowing what to do next
- loss of control
-holidays (the ultimate fear)
-avoiding mirrors
-looking at old pictures can make you sad
How alopecia has impacted me (positively)
- a feeling of empowerment
-the most amazing support (and therapy sessions) from family and friend
- random times of “this is what I look like, embrace the bald head”
-being able to share an awareness and knowledge of something that isn’t very well known
- I can change my hair colour/ style easily (with £)
- my wig holds a curl, and doesn’t need cleaned every week
I am so grateful for any donations made and will continue to share knowledge and an awareness of this crazy auto-immune disease!
