Wicklow Way 100 · 7 December 2018

We are the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We help people out of homelessness and campaign for the changes needed to solve it altogether.

Story

On 7 and 8 (and quite possibly 9!) December 2018 I'll try to complete  my first single-stage 100 mile ultra on the Wicklow Way 100 and I'm hoping to raise money for two great charities by doing so.

The first is Crisis, the homelessness charity I work for. Crisis works directly with homeless people, providing help so that they can rebuild their lives, as well as working to bring about policy and legislative changes needed to end homelessness for good.

Many people know Crisis best for its Christmas centres. As a Crisis employee I know how important our year-round services are and that Crisis at Christmas is just the beginning of someone's journey out of homelessness. But for me this occasion is quite festive and I love our Christmas appeal so my apparently random fundraising target of £986.30 is in fact the product of the cost of a place for a homeless person at Crisis at Christmas this year, £28.18, and 35, my age on 7 December, not entirely coincidentally my birthday!

The second charity is A Mile in Her Shoes which supports women who are at risk of homelessness or affected by related issues to feel better and find their feet through exercise. I'm very privileged to be a trustee and delighted to be raising money for AMiHS as well as Crisis through some very generous match funding.
