Help to beat prostate cancer and ALL cancers. Since signing up for the Shine Marathon my friend Jimmy has lost his beloved girlfriend "The Lovely Fiona Struthers" to bowel cancer. In his words "She had such big plans to help and give to the world. She was FULL of love, compassion and empathy for others.....and yet was taken from us by this cruel and horrible disease". I believe that although the money we raise will be channelled to prostate cancer, once we find a cure for one cancer it will be a domino effect for all the other cancers, including Lovely Fionas.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, with around 41,000 cases diagnosed every year. The good news is that, while prostate cancer death rates peaked in the early 1990s, they have since fallen by around a fifth. – that’s amazing progress – much of this is due to PSA testing in the UK, which identifies cases that would otherwise have gone undetected.

But prostate cancer still claims around 10,700 lives a year. So it’s crucial that Cancer Research UK continue their work and find new ways to tackle the disease.
