Story
I did it!
On 31st July I swam across the Solent in aid of the Isle of Wight Samaritans. We set off at 5.45 am (!) from Hurst Castle in Hampshire and I arrived at Colwell Bay on the Isle of Wight 45 minutes later - the photo shows my arrival, looking a bit smug, I have to confess!
We were very lucky with the weather - after some pretty awful weather (and weather forecasts) earlier in the week, the wind dropped the night before and the conditions were great - the water very flat, even in the middle of the Solent where the currents are strong. The water was still cold though, particularly as I had rather foolishly decided that I was not going to wear a wetsuit - only wimps (and triathletes - or is that the same thing?) wear wetsuits in July!!!!
Thank you for all your support - and it is of course not too late to sponser me - Isle of Wight Samaritans desperately needs funds as they have just moved into new accommodation and the running costs are high. This Swim is their major fund raising event of the year.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Samaritans Of Isle Of Wight gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thanks again
Sara
