Story
I've only really been cycling since March this year, up until then I think I had been on a bike maybe twice in 15 years. I wouldn't say that I was overweight or anything, I'm blessed with a metabolism that many people find unfair. However, having a job sat at a desk all day has made me unfit so I took up cycling. Initially I was happy with my 10 mile rides and very proud that I was managing this far, but I found that increasing the distance was way more satisfying. Within 3 months I have managed to do my first 50 miler and am planning a 100k (62 miles) very soon as practice for this event. I'm doing the event with 3 other guys from work.
(I have now managed a 100k practice run..... not the easiest thing to do, i can assure you)
I have a connection with cancer, my wife carries a faulty BRCA1 gene which increases her likelihood of getting breast and ovarian cancer. She does a lot of work for various charities, so I thought it was time that I did my bit. It also means that any boys that we have as children have a 50% chance of being more likely to get prostate cancer, as the risk for males increases with BRCA1 mutation.
