From Monday 11^th to Friday 15^th December, two teams from power engineering firm Smith Brothers will be donning their Lycra, heading to the boardroom and cycling the equivalent distance of 208 miles from their Elland (West Yorkshire) office to Big Ben.

But it’s not just for fun or bragging rights – we will be racing to raise money for two very worthwhile charities. One of these is the British Heart Foundation, for whom the team is aiming to raise more than £500 in sponsorship. This will go towards life-saving research in the fight against coronary heart disease, which is the UK’s single biggest killer.

We chose to support the BHF because a number of people within the company have suffered with heart conditions themselves, and others sadly have family members who have died as a result of them.

A vital part of combatting heart disease is having a healthy lifestyle and exercising regularly. So, as well as filling the coffers, we’re hoping to raise awareness about the importance of staying active during everyday life too.

Any donation would be hugely appreciated – however big or small. And if you’re in the area that week, feel free to pop into the office to cheer the riders along and take part in some of our other fundraising activities!
