The School Run 2017 · 2 July 2017 ·

We aim to support the advance of education in Africa and so help young people escape poverty. To achieve this we source and deliver books, train and mentor Library Assistants, run Reading Clubs and set up Libraries where children can learn to love reading and improve their literacy skills.

Story

I am asking for sponsorship to take part in the School Run, a 5km sponsored walk/run taking place on the 2nd of July.

I have worked with School Aid for almost 5 years now and during that time I have only become more convinced of the importance of the cause. Across the world there is much work being done to raise living standards and give people the chance to make a good life for themselves. All of this starts with education.

The opportunity to go to school and get a decent education, particularly to come out of the other end fully literate, is one still denied to far too many people in Africa. Without the foundational blocks of numeracy and literacy it is incredibly hard to make progress in life. School Aid works to help people achieve this.

We have so many resources in the UK that would go to waste if organisations like School Aid didn't find them a new and productive home. So many times I have been on the phone with a teacher or librarian telling me they have been asked to bin perfectly good books but they can't bring themselves to do it.

If you feel the same way, that these resources that can still be used should go to a good and useful home, then please support me and help get those books out to children in Africa who need them.
