Story
Hi! My name is Dr Stefan Schuller, I work as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Oxford and I am taking part in the Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Marathon in aid of Oxfordshire Mind during the Easter Weekend (Friday, 14th – Monday, 17th April 2006).
I am currently doing lots of training in my solo open canoe to take part in this 125 mile challenge which will involve carrying the canoe around altogether 77 locks and no doubt getting a pretty good Easter workout in the process!
On day 1 I will canoe on the Kennet & Avon Canal from The Wharf, Devizes through to Newbury – 34.5 miles, with 35 locks on route.
On day 2 I will canoe from Newbury to Marlow on Thames – another 35.5 miles, with another 28 locks on route.
On day 3 I will canoe from Marlow to Teddington – another 37.5 miles, with yet another 13 locks on route.
On day 4 I will canoe from Teddington to Westminster Bridge – another 17.5 miles and one more lock on this largely tidal stretch of the Thames.
I have decided to raise funds for Oxfordshire Mind because I particularly admire its day services and therapeutic group work programme. It complements wonderfully the work we do in the NHS, and there is scope for more partnership working. One in four people will experience mental health problems at one point in their life and local services need all the help they can get at this point in time.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Oxfordshire Mind will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support. Stefan
