Story
Hi and thanks so much for taking the time to read my page. On 12th May 2012 , along with 2 friends from RAF Regiment 29 Commando TACP I am taking on the gruelling 100km run from London to Brighton. It is a definitive test of endurance and determination. In full kit, boots and with 40lbs strapped to our backs we will equip ourselves with grit and determination to run the 100km through the day and through the night. Starting in Richmond Park we will make our way down to Brighton, traversing the North and South Downs. We will run, walk and crawl if we have to, but we will not give up. And why would we do this? Well it's simple, I am putting myself through a few hours of pain to raise as much money as I possibly can for the real heroes of this world. The brave children who are born into this world with apalling health conditions, requiring them to put up a real fight and who, although plagued with pain and discomfort daily, continue to brighten our lives with their smiles and continue to inspire us with their bravery.
Any parent knows that there is no worse experience than their child being ill. Few would even consider the horror of this when they bring a child into the world. However for so many, life is a struggle from the moment they are born. Have you ever felt at a total loss and not known where to turn for help? Thank goodness for Great Ormond Street Hospital which, since opening their doors on Valentines Day back in 1852 has been there to either change the lives of these little heroes or make life as comfortable for them as they possibly can whilst they are with us. Shockingly Great Ormond Street will see over 200,000 little ones pass through their doors for treatment each year alone. So you will understand then why I am grabbing the opportunity to do what I can to help raise much needed funding to help GOSH maintain the world class care they provide for our children and their desperate families. By digging deep you will help GOSH to continually refurbish their hospital to the highest standards. You will help fund the best and most effective equipment, support continued research into treatments and be responsible for helping these skilled and caring doctors and nurses put the smile back on the faces of our little unsung heroes and their families. Funding also allows GOSH to provide accommodation for Mum and Dad to stay right by the side of their little one as they go through such horrendous tough times. For me that's the real meaning of a gruelling challenge. All we have to worry about is a few blisters. So please, dig deep and give whatever you can to help make these kids smile again. EVERYTHING really does make a difference.
Thank you so much in advance on behalf of 3 weary soldiers and lots of very deserving little ones.
