Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page to raise money for St Margaret's Somerset Hospice in Yeovil on behalf of a great friend of mine Terry Bush. Full details of the challenge are available here: http://www.ukend2end.com/ it is a 980 mile bike ride over 9 days.

Terry passed peacefully away in the hospice in October after being diagnosed with cancer just a few days before. I am doing it for all of the family, friends and people I know of that have cruelly lost their lives to cancer over the years not just Terry but my Gran Florie, Ben Carter, Charlie Gibbs and Carrie-Anne Fox to name but a few.

We are all touched by cancer in one way or another and until a cure is found it is places like St Margarets that give people the chance to pass away in a peaceful environment, away from an impersonal place such as a hospital, surrounded by their family. I know times are hard at the moment, but please give all you can so I can raise as much money as possible for the great work that they do and honour those people in the best way I know how. Oh and if any of you fancy coming on some of the 100 mile+ training rides then you will be welcome as well :-) If you are a taxpayer then dont forget the Gift Aid box!

I will be updating this page with my training updates and no doubt stories of how tough it is, so please check it regularly! Thanks for looking, please give generously and lets raise some serious cash!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Below is a tribute to Terry read out at his funeral:

Terry was born in Yeovil on 24 February 1946. He was also known as Tel or Bushy and on some occasions Victor, because of his Victor Meldrew tendencies.

He grew up with his brothers Brian, Tony and Sister Bev.

Terry attended Huish Primary School and then Summerleaze Park.At the age of 15 he left school and worked for the Southern region railway as a fireman but after 6 years and the demise of steam he decided on a change of career and went to work for the G.P.O. which eventually became BT.

He had 2 children from his previous marriage - Dale and Michelle.

In 1975 he married his soul mate Tess.

Terry enjoyed nothing more than having a pint with his mates, a game of darts, skittles or crib and, if anyone actually remembers it, a game of shove ha’penny at the White Horse on Sunday lunchtimes. Saturdays were normally spent watching Yeovil Town of which he was a loyal supporter.

He was so pleased when Michelle and Nigel decided to get married and it was his proudest moment when he walked her down the aisle.

In 1993 tragically Dale died in a road traffic accident leaving Terry heartbroken.

But his sadness turned to joy when Lisa his grand-daughter was born, and then subsequently followed by Matthew his grand-son, both of whom he adored.

At the age of 50 Terry retired from BT, hoping to be just a house husband, however, after gentle persuasion from Tess, he went back to work and found what could be described as his dream job, delivering beer, and of course sampling it!

Then at the age of 60 Terry finally retired and took the role of house husband more seriously.

He often reminisced about his early childhood holidays, most of which were spent in a caravan at Bowleaze.

So it was of no surprise when Terry and Tess bought their own static caravan at Weymouth.

It was at this time Terry was persuaded to increase the family by having a Bearded Collie called Hamish, little did he realise that this was only the start and that over the years the numbers would keep increasing until eventually there was a grand total of 7 Beardies. Although he often moaned about the dogs he was extremely fond of them, as long as they were well groomed, well behaved and doing well at shows.

During his life he enjoyed many happy holidays abroad with friends and family, visiting Malta, Spain, Canary Islands, Barbados, America but the hi-light of all his holidays was the Disney trip to Florida with Tess, Michelle, Nigel, Lisa and Matt.

In recent years Terry and Tess have enjoyed touring with the caravan where they made many new friends. Terry enjoyed all the fun and banter that it brought.

Terry was a man of few words, although his family and friends meant everything to him, and no doubt everyone here will have their own memories of him and it is obvious he will be sorely missed.
