Story
Following Scott’s untimely death in February 2008, a bursary was established in his name at Robert Gordon’s College. Scott, who died at just the age of 33, attended the College after being awarded a foundation bursary in 1986.
Earlier this year George Stevenson, College Governor, handed over a cheque to the College for £100,000, that mainly comprised of company donations from the Aberdeen business community. This sum was enough to buy a half bursary in Scott’s name, in perpetuity.
In February, a special reception took place at the College to hand over the money. At the reception George Stevenson personally donated a further £50,000 and the College committed to match this kind donation to bring the sum raised to £200,000.
To assist the school in raising this additional sum several of the surveying firms in Aberdeen have decided to run the Baker Hughes 10k on the 24th May in Scott’s memory. This fundraising initiative is open to any of Scott’s friends, family or former colleagues who can choose to enter as an individual or as a team to help raise money toward the final push to achieve a full bursary in Scott’s name. Never in the school’s history has such a sum been raised in one person’s name – a fitting tribute indeed to a young man who was a great friend to so many and such a highly regarded professional.
