//// RAISING MONEY FOR: NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU) DERRIFORD HOSPITAL ////
PLEASE READ THIS DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY BEFORE DONATING
- Currently, the Special Care Baby Ward at Derriford has no direct charity of it's own as Plymouth Hospitals have a general Charity for donations -
WE WOULD ASK THAT YOU PLEASE DONATE STRAIGHT TO THE HOSPITAL UNIT/WARD
On the 1st October 1989, Sean Barry Keenan arrived in the maternity unit of Freedom Fields Hospital, Plymouth, 15 weeks premature.
He was immediately rushed off to the special care baby unit and remained there for some time.
Thanks to the expert care of the doctors and nurses at the time, he made it through.
Sean is now a healthy and happy young man, at 25 years old and has just celebrated the very 1st birthday of his daughter.
Next year, 2015 Sean is planning to do the Three Peaks Challenge with his older brother and close friends to help raise money for two causes.
Firstly, funds will be raised for the Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, Maternity and Special Care Baby Units . The special care equipment such as the incubators used to help not only himself but other babies born prematurely at the time was all transferred here when Freedom Fields Hospital closed.
The money raised will go towards helping both premature babies and their mothers.
Secondly, Sean will be raising funds for the 'Cavitron fund' Charity No.290039, which you can read more about at the following web address: http://www.cavitronfund.org.uk/
The charity was started by Mike Turner, who was responsible for helping raise funds at Freedom Fields Hospital Special Care Baby Unit around the time Sean was born. His original charity 'SCAMP' that we would've liked the funds to go to has also since closed.
This is an important and meaningful cause to Sean and all his family, and more so to those who are the families of individuals who need the help of the Cavitron fund and the Special Care Baby Unit at Derriford Hospital at present.
