Story

Sea to See Charity Cycle Ride

Two hundred miles on bikes in one day, from Hampshire’s South Coast to Norfolk’s North Coast, to raise money to help people see

The team taking on the Sea to See challenge are Anne Walton, Jon Humphrey, Steve Kyffin and me, Mark Greenwood. The money raised will go to help CBM carry out sight-saving cataract operations in countries like Nigeria and Nepal.

Why are we doing this?
After seeing my left eye go blurry, a cataract was identified by the brilliant opticians at Cecil Amey's Norwich branch. Thanks to the NHS, just eight weeks later the cataract was removed and my sight restored.

This speedy, efficient and successful process forced me to confront the fact that not everyone in the world has access to such a fantastic service.

CBM help carry out cataract operations around the globe, if we can raise a significant amount we can help a lot of people have their cataracts treated too.

Will you sponsor us for £24 to help restore someone's sight?

The target of £2400 is enough to help one hundred people have a cataract operation. If you could sponsor the team for £24, or indeed any amount, you will be helping change someone's life, enabling them to see, live and work.

Who are CBM?

CBM (Christian Blind Mission) are based in Cambridge and help people with disabilities in counties such as Rwanda, Indonesia and Nepal. They have developed a particular expertise in taking mobile cataract operations teams to remote rural communities, helping restore sight and changing people's lives. CBM's team are able to do a typical adult cataract operation for £24 and an operation on a young child for £95. Also, not entirely unconnected, Marks daughter Sarah works for CBM!

The big day
The Sea to See ride will take place on Saturday 29 April with four cyclists doing the whole distance and others joining us for shorter sections.

Thanks!

Big thanks to everyone who is supporting us, especially Cecil Amey who have really got behind this event. Also, thanks to everyone who has given us encouragement to get out there and train for what is for us, a major challenge.

Thank you too, for taking the time to visit this page, if you are able to contribute, we're really grateful, if not, no worries - but if you can spread the word about the event, that would be brilliant!
