Story

I have just returned back from a heart warming but also heart wrenching trip from Goa where I volunteered with the amazing charity - El Shaddai Child Rescue.

The children we worked closely with who are in the care of El Shaddai have nothing compared to what we have, but look like they have everything by the smiles on their faces with the help and love of the work the charity do. Although, many of the children, deep down you can see sadness and hurt in their eyes from past memories. These children are the most polite kind-hearted children I have ever met though . because of the love and support and teaching from the staff and volunteers at the homes.

El Shaddai provides a home and schooling for 300 children. We heard first hand some of the horrific stories of how these children ended up with El Shaddai, they may have been found on the street, or mistreated, and some handed over by their families simply because the parents could feed them so did the best thing for their children and put them in the safe hands of El Shaddai where they will be looked after, fed, clothed and schooled.

The first home, Victory House in Chapora, Goa started with six children. The numbers slowly grew with the magnitude of the problem. Over the years , more houses homes and shelters have been made available. They have now been running for over 20 years and care for 3000 children in 7 states through 25 different projects.

Through the shelters, they provide children on the street a safe place to rest, have a shower and a hot meal. The intention, through the shelters is to first tackle the basics but to gradually get the children to take up education by enrolling them in government schools in the locality. Skills training is also provided to the children to develop skills that could provide them with profitable business or employment opportunities.

This is just some of the work of El Shaddai, after seeing what they do in Goa first hand, I realise the magnitude of the work they do. It was so upsetting to see the children in the slum areas and living in awful conditions, but with the help of El Shaddai and the outreach workers, the children are getting some respite and a hot meal ..

I know i have been to Goa now but I am still asking for more donations as I can see how much your money makes a difference.

Please support this amazing cause by adding funds on here, the money will go direct to the charity - please remember to gift aid if you are a UK tax payer. Or you can sponsor one of the incredible children that I met, by making a monthly payment . It costs just £1 a day for a child to live and be educated at El Shaddai. Please ask me for a sponsor form or read more on the website
