Story

Thanks for visiting our Race for Life page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online, it would mean so much to me.

Seeing someone go through Cancer is very hard to digest, hard to watch, hard to support and hard when its you.

When i think about it, ive seen every stage and how it affects people.

Being stage 1/2 for me was enough to say this isnt happening but i got it early and im fine and then seeing someone in stage 3, was incredibly hard to understand mainly because you think, WHY?. You definitely go through happy and sad times. Even more so when you know someone who is at stage 4 & you can see in there eyes, how scaried they are and theres nothing you can do but support them in anyway you can and then when someone dies, you never ever get over it. Ive seen it in the young and the old but it doesnt make it any easier.

I love doing 'Race 4 Life', this year will be my 9th year and every year it gets harder mainly as im getting older but also as i end up adding someone else to my memory card.

Every year I dont just run for my loved ones, I run for everyone else's

For me, im running for me, my Grandad, George Sheppard, I loved him, he was my best friend and life has never really been the same without him, my nan, Mary McCarthy, she was amazing, she fought so hard and was incredibly lucky to reach 90! My great nan, Clara Windor, I was young when she died but I remember her house, the colour, her biscuit tin and her face and Kelly, a close family member to my sister-in-law, she was so brave, right to the end and she has 2x amazing 7 year old boys. Im also running for my sister,  Katie,  who survived, struggled and went through hell to make it.

Event like Race for Life are vital in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring me and the girls, you can unite and create a force that cancer can't ignore. That one day for curing cancer could be today and knowing that you helped get it there, is an amazing achievement.
