Without Rain - There Can Be No Rainbows
Hi as you all may be aware Ken and I are getting married Sat 28th Aug 2010. Instead of asking for wedding gifts we would like to ask people to donate to a charity that is very close to our hearts "When You Wish Upon A Star".
The charity helps children that are either terminally ill or have life threatening illnesses achieve their dream. Whether its the annual trip to Lapland to meet the real Santa or to meet their pop idol or swim with the dolphins, When You Wish Upon A Star raise money to make their dreams happen.
As you may be aware I have a daughter born with Downs Syndrome. Alesha has enriched my life. I have made friends with people I probably would never have met and altho she is a little minx at times (ok most of the time) but she has helped me see life through different eyes since having her. I would like to think Im a better, more understanding and helpful person. I feel so lucky to have her. She can light up the darkest of rooms - thanks leashy-lock your the best!!
Alesha and I have been very lucky to have been to Lapland so I can tell you about my experience 1st hand. To see such poorly childrens faces lighting up and being so happy for a day i can not begin in words to express how emotional, happy, sad, overjoyed (and many many more words) i felt watching them.
After the children play in the enchanted forrest on maybe a husky or a reindeer ride or a skidu or sledge for a while and eat sausages, toast marshmallows by the open fire, drink hot chocolate, there is a fantastic display in the sky of fireworks. Then its off to the hotel for lunch. Santa makes his grand entrance with of course the famous Rudolph. To see so many childrens faces when they meet Santa is something that is unforgetable and will always stay with me. It is worth something that no money can ever buy. Pure priceless!!
The helpers of the Wish Upon A Star team are their helping the parents lift their child, carry their bags..........basically anything that is needed of them. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
I have to mention 2 lovely friends of The Wish Upon A Star Team, the famous Pat and Jo. They are the regional organizers. I have never met anyone so kind, loving and dedicated to their charity. They are an inspiration to anyone that knows them. We are both proud to be known as their friends xx
Many of you will know Ken and I will help out when ever we can, whether is be bag packing, selling raffle tickets - basically anything thats needed of us. This charity is so worth while. It is something we both fully support and feel strongly about.
Anyway Im sorry for rambling on..........please please please dig deep into your pockets and leave a donation for this so worth while charity. With the current reccession this charity really needs your help to make poorly children fulfill their dreams.
At the end of the day which is more rewarding ........buying us a toaster or some cups ect or making a young sick poorly child smile???
Id just like to end this by saying thank you to all of you and we look forward to seeing you on our special day
Lots of love
Ken and Shelly xxx
