Victoria Park 10km Run for Cancer Research · 18 October 2009
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Those of you that know me well will no doubt be raising an eyebrow or two (and enjoying a quiet smirk) and although it is quite unbelievable, I am about to undertake a 10km run. For those who know me less well, the truth of the matter is, I don't do running. I'll ride a dirt bike and I'll jump out of planes - and I've been known to dance on the occasional table or two and I'm generally up for a challenge - but I NEVER, without exception, run.
At school I used to be quite a brilliant sprinter if I say so myself but that was more years ago than I care to remember and even then, I HATED the cross country runs. I have no stamina and I just cannot do it. And I cannot quite see the point of running.
But this is all for a very brilliant cause and I am hoping that all you lovely donors out there will give generously as I won't be doing this running lark again and it's all for Cancer Research UK.
So why must you donate and why am I doing it?
Well of course because I want to raise money for Cancer Research UK - a fantastic organisation.
And because I am unfit.
And because I hate running.
And because I gave up smoking 7 months ago and put on 7 kilos.
And because I am now fat (well, I feel fat and blobby).
And because everyone laughs when I tell them I'm going to run 10kms.
And because I hate running.
And because my son Jack thinks it's a complete joke and I won't last five minutes.
And because I've registered my daughter Lucy to run too but she doesn't know it yet!
And because I have to prove my son wrong.
And because it's going to be very very horrible indeed (the running bit I mean).
And because I hate running.
And because my lovely Roly has volunteered to be my personal trainer. Abuse will take on a whole new dimension, I fear...
And because last night I did a trial run and managed to do 1km in 13 minutes and I thought I was going to die at the end and could only be revived with a bucket of wine. But I did burn 131 calories which I thought was quite clever.
And because my best friend is going to do it and if she can do it, then surely I can too because she's A LOT older than me...
And because it's in less than 6 weeks time and that's got to worth something in such short notice.
And because my dear stepfather is coming to the end of a very brave battle with cancer and this is really just for him.
So please please please help me to achieve my goal. And motivate me to run. I don't want any of you to be there to encourage me (it won't be a pretty sight) but any post run donations of Bolly, DP or Chateau Margaux would be gratefully accepted. In fact, any old plonk will do.
Thank you all. With love from me x
