RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

The two of us,Bill Walton, Sea Safety Officer for Newhaven & Brighton and David Rhodes, RNLI Fundraiser from Devizes, from 30th January 2009 (SOS Day) to 23rd February will be taking full advantage of our senior years and using our ‘free’ bus passes to travel around the UK, promoting sea safety and raising essential funds to help the RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards save lives at sea.

Look out for the ‘Silly Old Sods’ on the bus in their RNLI yellow wellies and Lifejackets and support us as we attempt to follow the coast of England and Wales in an anticlockwise direction, starting and finishing at Newhaven, East Sussex.  Our aim is to complete the journey traveling entirely on public buses and using our senior citizen passes, until we reach Wales where special thanks goes to the bus companies there who have agreed to help with free travel as our passes won’t be valid.

Please help us along this mammoth trip, your sponsorship will not only keep us sitting on those bus seats but will, much more importantly, be supporting the very brave men and women who put their own lives at risk to help save the lives of others at sea …and you never know when you might need them.  You can sponsor the pair per day or for the whole trip.

Visit our website www.windnwaves.com/SOS for more details.
