The Kenyan Orphan Project was started in 2001 by three medical students at Nottingham University in response to the worsening global problems of poverty and the HIV/AIDS epidemic. For 8 years KOP has been sending groups of university students to Kenya to assist with local project groups and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Kenya.
The money that the Leeds KOP group raises will support VIMA, an NGO which funds foster homes and the living costs of orphans and vulnerable children in Kisumu. This includes the cost of school books, uniform, fees and healthcare. During our two week trip we will take part in a range of projects such as teaching in a primary school, working in a feeding centre, working in a street children centre and taking part in a building project. Each student on the trip needs to raise £800, which will all go directly to VIMA. I am privately funding another £1000 to pay for my flights, accommodation and living costs. The charity’s website is www.kopafrica.org if you would like more information.
So please donate to help reach my target! It doesn't have to be a huge amount. Anything is appreciated. Thanks :)
