Ecuador Trek 2007 · 22 May 2007

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

As many of you will know, last year I was diagnosed with
Parkinson's Disease, a condition that my mother has lived with and managed incredibly well for the last 30 years.
It is only when something affects you personally like this that you
fully realise the importance of research into such diseases and feel
compelled to make some practical contribution. On November 10th this year I will therefore be packing my bags for a trip to Ecuador where I will be taking part in a 10 day trek, organised by the Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS). The trek will take me and another 24 PDS supporters 130km through the Andes, climaxing in a final climb to a refuge 16,000 feet above sea level on the volcano Mount Cotopaxi.
To do this, however, I want to raise a target figure of £6000. A proportion of this sum covers the travelling expenses of which I will naturally pay for myself.   In order to raise the balance, which goes to the PDS for research, I am calling on you to help me in any way, no matter how little.  Sponsorship donations will naturally be gratefully received -
or, very bluntly, single contributions via this site (see below for details). One friend and her family has even set up a standing order to spread her donation over the next ten months with a payment of £6 per month. The amount you pay is entirely up to you.
Whilst I do need all your help to succeed I totally appreciate there may be other worthy causes out there closer to your heart.
Many Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Cheers
Simon
