Story
My sisters and I read a book called Half the Sky by Kristof & WuDunn. It is a life-altering book detailing the oppression that many women and children suffer throughout the world and how you can help. The first hand stories of victims of sex trafficking, rape, poverty, gender-based violence and maternal mortality haven't left us. We joined the Half the Sky movement to raise funds and awareness in the fight to empower women and children less fortunate than ourselves.
There are so many issues to cover and multiple grassroots charities but we decided on Women for Women International because they cover a broad spectrum of social and cultural problems. The charity serves women in war torn parts of Africa and the Middle East whose lives have been devastated by emotional and physical trauma...rape, violence, famine, disease and displacement. In the DR of the Congo alone, nearly 2 million women are rape survivors. The charity helps them to reconstruct their lives through healthcare and education. Please help us raise money for those women and their children.
Between my sisters and I, we will be running the Cheshire 10K on March 30th and hosting a Half the Sky film screening night (with free wine of course- date TBA) as well as other money raising/awareness ventures!
In the meantime, read the book and join the movement...
