We did it !!!!!
On Tuesday 10th July at 4.15am, the eight of us met up in the dark, wet and windy carpark of Les Mielles Golf Club and probably all thought the same thing.... what the heck are we doing?
As first light broke, the rain stopped and play started at about 4.40am. Then the rain started again!
Our first round was completed by 8am and included a welcome coffee and danish stop at the halfway point provided by Annie. Team manager NJF arrived at an altogether more agreeable hour to help organise us for the day and made sure that at the end of R1 the bacon rolls were ready as we stepped off the 18th.
After the quick pitstop it was back on the course for 8.30am for R2 and the first group were greeted by a heavy downpour whilst the second group kept dry in the Clubhouse and finished their breakfasts. By the end of R2 the sun finally decided to come out and we were ready for a lunch of 'Ultimate burger and fries'.
Fully fuelled, R3 started at 1pm and we were now on a roll. Team two were posting some superb scores whilst team one were finding the windy conditions just a little bit more challenging. At the end of R3 wives and children turned up to offer some support and we set out for the final round at 5pm.
Blisters and aching limbs were now taking their toll but we soldered on closing out the final round at a very respectable 8.30pm. A few beers and much banter followed to finish off the event.
So far we've had some really brilliant support and we're really keen to make a final push for sponsorship. We've all certainly shed blood, sweat and a few tears in the process and so please dig deep and sponsor us online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Macmillan Cancer Support will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
We really appreciate your generosity and should also thank Les Mielles Golf and Country Club for their cooperation, NJF and Adam for being fantastic support riders, Annie for the early morning coffee stop and Lloyds TSB for matching the first £4,000 we have raised.
